An umbrella company is a go-between company. Umbrella companies exist as an alternative to being a PAYE employee, setting up a limited company or registering as a sole trader.

They act as the link between a worker and the company or business you do paid work for. An umbrella company will handle your pay, payment of taxes and national insurance contributions, sick pay and holiday/maternity/paternity pay.
